Coalition Initiatives

The Chippewa Valley Coalition for Youth and Families joins Chippewa Valley Schools, parents, and community in a partnership to prevent and reduce youth substance abuse and its negative consequences and to prevent youth suicide.

Life of an Athlete/John Underwood

Systematic approach to drug prevention with Chippewa Valley Schools athletes

Education of athletes, coaches, parents, school and community about effects of alcohol and other drug use on athletic performance

Project Alert – Middle School Health

11 session drug prevention programs for 7th graders; Research-based and federally approved curriculum; 3 “booster” sessions at 8th grade

SandCastles Grief and Loss Support Group Program

Support group program provided to children/teens (preschool thru high school) and their parents, providing assistance in dealing with the loss of a significant person by death

Multi-component tool kit focused on educating students, parents, and community about the dangers of marijuana for youth and community

Joins CVHS and Dakota HS Coalition Teen Council members with the police in visits to local retailers in an effort to educate businesses about the legal consequences of selling to minors

Engage middle and high school students and their parents in discussion of Important topics

Focus on Youth Forums

Brings together Dakota, CVHS, and Mohegan HS students in structured dialogue with community and school leaders and provides youth perspectives on the issues that affect them

Prescription Drug “Take Backs”

Events that take back unused and expired medication and provide community-based education issues related the dangers of youth opioid abuse and the need to properly secure and dispose

School Transition Nights

Prepare parents and their students who are transitioning to high school for the “next step”

The Coalition works with community partners to advocate for local, state, and federal policy that protects youth, schools, and community.
